Description
During WWII my father worked for American Aviation, a sub-contractor on the Interstate TDR-1 Attack Drone which was Americas’ first venture into remotely piloted drones. At the end of the war he managed to bring home a transport canopy from a TDR-1. Years later at the age of 5 or 6 I discovered this relic stashed in a corner of the “Big Barn.” Cleanng the encrustation of hayseeds and chicken droppings revealed to my imagination a most magnificent fighter aircraft. I cannot begin to speculate how many hours or missions I flew over enemy territory in this invincible war machine propped up between two five gallon buckets. Such was the birth of my lifelong facination with aircraft and all things that fly.
The intense curiosity of the young boy in the upper right corner of this image reminds me of myself at that age.
