Description
I photographed this aircraft at an airshow in Prescott, Arizona. Just in front of the number 33 the quote In memory of Johnny Livingston roused my curiosity. A bit of research on the inter-net gave me this information. This was the first clipped wing Mono-Coupe 110 Special ever built. Purchased in 1930 by air race pilot Johnny Livingston, he flew it in air races until 1932 when it was fitted with a new wing reducing its span by ten feet. During the time Livingston owned it he entered it in 65 air races, winning 41 times. It has been fully restored and is currently operated out of Chandler airport.
A close friendship with Johnny Livingston gave Richard Bach inspiration for the character "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" in his book by the same name.
